Rutin (rutoside) - the flavonoid from the Japanese pagoda tree
- Rutin, also known as rutoside or quercetin-3-O-rutinoside, is a secondary plant compound from the flavonoid group (bioflavonoids). Chemically it consists of the flavonol quercetin and the disaccharide rutinose - historically it was also referred to as "vitamin P".
- The richest natural source of rutin is the dried flower buds of the Japanese pagoda tree (Sophora japonica L., legume family, Fabaceae). Buckwheat, capers and citrus peel also contain rutin - but in considerably lower concentrations.
- Rutin was first isolated in 1842 from common rue (Ruta graveolens), from which it takes its name. The Japanese pagoda tree has been cultivated in East Asia for centuries and is today the most important raw material source for rutin.
550 mg rutin from 579 mg extract - standardised instead of anonymous powder
- Green Naturals Rutin Capsules contain 550 mg rutin from 579 mg Sophora japonica extract per capsule - equivalent to a standardisation of 95% rutin. By comparison, many manufacturers only declare an extract quantity without stating the actual rutin content.
- The entire daily dose is contained in a single capsule - compared to many suppliers that require 2 to 3 capsules for a comparable amount or only offer rutin in low-dose combination products with 50 to 100 mg.
- Rutin is scientifically well characterised: the absorption and metabolism of rutin in humans was investigated in a double-blind crossover study (Erlund et al., 2000), and a recent review describes how rutin is converted to quercetin in the gut by the microbiota (He et al., 2026).
Pure formula, 6-month supply - and honest transparency
- Rutin is a plant compound (botanical): there are currently no authorised health claims for rutin under EFSA. We therefore deliberately refrain from making any claims about effects and focus on measurable quality - content, purity and laboratory testing.
- The formula is a true mono preparation: Sophora japonica extract and a plant-based HPMC capsule shell - no rice flour, magnesium stearate, colourants or other excipients.
- 180 vegan capsules per tub last for 180 days - a convenient 6-month supply with just 1 capsule a day.
-
Best time to take
Take 1 capsule daily with plenty of water at a meal. The time of day can be chosen individually - what matters is regular daily intake.
-
Dosage and duration of use
Daily dose: 1 capsule (= 579 mg Sophora japonica extract with 550 mg rutin). We recommend continuous intake for at least 8 weeks. The pack of 180 capsules lasts for 6 months. For adults only. Must not be taken by pregnant or breastfeeding women or by children. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose.

Remarks
- HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) is a preventive system for ensuring food safety that identifies and assesses potential hazards in production and minimizes them through targeted control measures. The seal refers to the manufacturing process.
- This is how the grade is calculated: Grade calculation based on star ratings: 5.00 - 4.50 Very good, 4.49 - 3.50 Good, 3.49 - 2.50 Satisfactory, 2.49 - 1.50 Sufficient, 1.49 - 1.00 Poor. For the verification of ratings, no authenticity check of customer reviews is carried out. The ratings are combined from different sources, such as mail-order pharmacies and online marketplaces.
