Boswellia (Boswellia serrata) - the resin of the Indian frankincense tree
- Indian frankincense (Boswellia serrata Roxb.) is a tree of the torchwood family (Burseraceae) that grows in the dry hill regions of India. The gum resin (olibanum) is used: it seeps out when the bark is scored and hardens into golden-yellow tears in the air.
- Its characteristic constituents are pentacyclic triterpenic acids, the boswellic acids - including β-boswellic acid, 11-keto-β-boswellic acid (KBA) and 3-acetyl-11-keto-β-boswellic acid (AKBA), which is considered the most important marker compound.
- Frankincense resin has been traded for more than 3,000 years and is used in India's Ayurvedic tradition under the name "Shallaki" - today it is used as a standardised extract with a defined boswellic acid content.
Double standardised - 85% boswellic acids and 20% AKBA
- Green Naturals Boswellia capsules contain 1000 mg extract with 850 mg boswellic acids per daily dose - compared to many manufacturers who use ground resin powder without a declared active content.
- In addition, the extract is standardised to 20% AKBA (200 mg per daily dose) - compared to many suppliers who do not declare the proportion of this marker compound at all.
- The metabolism and pharmacokinetics of boswellic acids - especially KBA and AKBA - have been investigated in vitro and in vivo (Abdel-Tawab et al., 2008); a review summarises the preclinical, pharmacokinetic and clinical data on Boswellia serrata (Abdel-Tawab et al., 2011).
Plus vitamin C, D, calcium & manganese - with proven benefits
- Vitamin C contributes to normal collagen formation for the normal function of cartilage and bones; manganese contributes to the normal formation of connective tissue (authorised EFSA claims).
- Vitamin D and manganese contribute to the maintenance of normal bones, and calcium is needed for the maintenance of normal bones; vitamin D also contributes to the maintenance of normal muscle function. Per daily dose: 5.0 µg vitamin D (100% NRV), 24 mg vitamin C (30% NRV), 0.6 mg manganese (30% NRV) and 120 mg calcium (15% NRV).
- 120 vegan capsules per tin last for 60 days - a 2-month supply with 2 capsules daily.
-
Optimal time of intake
Take 2 capsules daily with sufficient liquid, ideally with a meal. Boswellic acids are fat-soluble - what matters most is regular daily intake.
-
Dosage and duration of use
Daily dose: 2 capsules (= 1000 mg Boswellia extract with 850 mg boswellic acids and 200 mg AKBA, 24 mg vitamin C, 5.0 µg vitamin D, 120 mg calcium and 0.6 mg manganese). We recommend continuous intake for at least 8 weeks. The pack of 120 capsules lasts for 60 days. Remarks
- HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) is a preventive system for ensuring food safety that identifies and assesses potential hazards in production and minimizes them through targeted control measures. The seal refers to the manufacturing process.
- This is how the grade is calculated: Grade calculation based on star ratings: 5.00 - 4.50 Very good, 4.49 - 3.50 Good, 3.49 - 2.50 Satisfactory, 2.49 - 1.50 Sufficient, 1.49 - 1.00 Poor. For the verification of ratings, no authenticity check of customer reviews is carried out. The ratings are combined from different sources, such as mail-order pharmacies and online marketplaces.
