Magnesium bisglycinate - magnesium in a glycine chelate
- Magnesium bisglycinate is an organic magnesium compound in which one magnesium ion is bound to two molecules of the amino acid glycine (chelate complex) - hence also the names magnesium glycinate or magnesium diglycinate.
- Magnesium is, after potassium, the second most abundant intracellular cation and is involved in over 600 enzymatic reactions, including energy metabolism and protein synthesis (de Baaij et al., 2015).
- 2128 mg of magnesium bisglycinate deliver 300 mg of elemental magnesium - the declared elemental content is the decisive figure when comparing magnesium products.
The chelated form - investigated rather than claimed
- Green Naturals Magnesium Bisglycinate declares the elemental content precisely: 300 mg of magnesium per daily dose (80 % NRV) - compared to many manufacturers who only state the compound amount without an elemental value.
- The bisglycinate form was investigated in a randomised, double-blind crossover trial: part of the chelate is presumably absorbed intact via a dipeptide transport pathway (Schuette et al., 1994).
- A combined in vitro/in vivo comparison of 15 commercial products showed how strongly magnesium preparations differ in release and bioavailability (Blancquaert et al., 2019) - an argument for defined raw material quality.
With authorised EFSA claims - substantiated benefits
- Magnesium contributes to normal muscle function, normal functioning of the nervous system, normal psychological function and the reduction of tiredness and fatigue - as well as to electrolyte balance, normal energy-yielding metabolism and the maintenance of normal bones and teeth (authorised EFSA claims).
- With 300 mg of elemental magnesium (80 % NRV) per daily dose the product is highly dosed - transparency matters: magnesium preparations can have a laxative effect above 250 mg per day.
- 120 vegan capsules last for 30 days - 4 capsules daily, flexibly spread over the day.
-
Optimal time of intake
Take 4 capsules daily with sufficient liquid. The timing is flexible - many users split the daily dose into two portions (e.g. 2 capsules in the morning, 2 in the evening). Regular daily intake is what matters.
-
Dosage and duration of use
Daily dose: 4 capsules (= 2128 mg magnesium bisglycinate with 300 mg elemental magnesium, 80 % NRV). The 120-capsule pack lasts 30 days. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose - magnesium preparations can have a laxative effect above 250 mg per day. For adults only; pregnant or breastfeeding women and people with kidney disease should consult their doctor or pharmacist.

Remarks
- HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) is a preventive system for ensuring food safety that identifies and assesses potential hazards in production and minimizes them through targeted control measures. The seal refers to the manufacturing process.
- This is how the grade is calculated: Grade calculation based on star ratings: 5.00 - 4.50 Very good, 4.49 - 3.50 Good, 3.49 - 2.50 Satisfactory, 2.49 - 1.50 Sufficient, 1.49 - 1.00 Poor. For the verification of ratings, no authenticity check of customer reviews is carried out. The ratings are combined from different sources, such as mail-order pharmacies and online marketplaces.
