Was ist Lutein?

Lutein ist ein Xanthophyll, also ein sauerstoffhaltiges Carotinoid. Anders als Beta-Carotin wird es nicht in Vitamin A umgewandelt. Es reichert sich zusammen mit Zeaxanthin in der Makula des Auges an und verleiht dem gelben Fleck seine Färbung.

Was ist der Unterschied zwischen Lutein und Zeaxanthin?

Beide sind Xanthophylle mit sehr ähnlicher Struktur und kommen in der Makula gemeinsam vor. Viele Präparate deklarieren nur Lutein - unsere Kapsel enthält beide im Verhältnis 10:1.

Woher stammt Lutein in Nahrungsergänzungen?

Aus den Blüten der Studentenblume (Tagetes erecta L.), dem etablierten Rohstoff. In Lebensmitteln finden sich Lutein und Zeaxanthin vor allem in Grünkohl, Spinat und Eigelb.

Wann sollte man Lutein einnehmen?

1 Kapsel pro Tag zu einer fetthaltigen Mahlzeit. Xanthophylle sind fettlöslich - ohne Nahrungsfett ist die Aufnahme deutlich geringer.

Wie lange kann man Lutein einnehmen?
