Proso millet (Panicum miliaceum) - the ancient grain for your hair
- Proso millet (Panicum miliaceum) is a cereal from the grass family (Poaceae) and has been cultivated for around 10,000 years - making it one of the oldest crops in the world.
- The characteristic compound of millet seeds is the triterpenoid miliacin, alongside silicic acid, minerals and B vitamins. Hair Forte contains a 10:1 extract - 500 mg corresponds to 5 g of millet seeds.
- The millet is complemented by saw palmetto (Serenoa repens), a fan palm from the south-eastern USA whose fruits are rich in fatty acids and phytosterols such as beta-sitosterol.
Millet, saw palmetto & L-cystine - defined extracts instead of powder
- Green Naturals Hair Forte contains a 10:1 millet seed extract with 500 mg per daily dose - compared to many hair vitamins that use millet only as a powder without a defined extract ratio.
- The saw palmetto fruit extract is standardised to 5% phytosterols (15 mg per daily dose) - compared to many suppliers that declare no marker compounds. 200 mg L-cystine, the sulphur-containing amino acid of hair keratin, comes from vegan fermentation.
- The ingredients are the subject of research: a millet-wheat extract complex has been studied in dermal papilla cells (Choi et al., 2023).
Biotin, zinc & selenium - with proven benefits for hair
- Biotin, zinc and selenium contribute to the maintenance of normal hair, copper contributes to normal hair pigmentation. Vitamin C contributes to normal collagen formation for the normal function of skin, vitamin B6 to normal cysteine synthesis (authorised EFSA claims).
- Zinc, selenium, copper, vitamin C and folic acid are dosed at exactly 100% NRV, biotin at 250 µg (500% NRV) - zinc as zinc bisglycinate, folic acid as calcium L-methylfolate.
- 120 vegan capsules per pack last 60 days - a 2-month supply at 2 capsules daily.
-
Optimal time of intake
Take 2 capsules daily, unchewed, with sufficient water, ideally with a meal. The time of day is up to you - what matters is regular daily intake.
-
Dosage and duration of use
Daily dose: 2 capsules (= 500 mg millet seed extract, 300 mg saw palmetto fruit extract with 15 mg phytosterols, 200 mg L-cystine, 250 µg biotin, 10 mg zinc, 55 µg selenium, 1.0 mg copper plus vitamin C and B vitamins). As hair grows slowly, we recommend continuous intake for at least 8 weeks; one pack of 120 capsules lasts 60 days. For adults only, not suitable for pregnant women, children or adolescents. Avoid other food supplements containing selenium, vitamin B6 or zinc.
